Gottfa80_PLus V2 Full: Everything about the integrated sound board
Integrated sound board of the GottFA80_Plus V2 Full: compatibility, settings and audio tests (Gottlieb System 80 / 80A / 80B)
The Gottlieb System 80, System 80A and System 80B pinball machines are appreciated for their gameplay, but their Gottlieb sound boards often become unstable after 40 years (random failures, missing voices, unbalanced volume, etc.). The GottFA80_Plus V2 Full integrates a modern sound board directly onto a single board, while preserving the authenticity of the original sounds.

A complete plug-and-play board (CPU + Driver + Power supply + Sound)
With the GottFA80_Plus V2 Full, you replace a large part of the original electronics with a reliable, modern and 100% plug-and-play solution, without modifying your pinball machine.
- Integrated CPU: system compatibility preserved
- Integrated sound board: sounds and voices identical to the original
- Integrated driver: original behaviour retained
- Integrated power supply: stable and clean solution
Authenticity respected: ROMs, audio modes and DIP settings
The board replaces the CPU and the original sound board while strictly respecting:
- the original ROMs of the game
- the original sound and voice modes (speech included)
- the DIP settings specific to each machine
Whether your pinball machine uses a MA55, MA216 (speech), MA309 or MA490 sound board, the audio behaviour is preserved identically.
Sound Test: settings and audio verification procedure
Before testing, configure the audio options correctly in order to faithfully reproduce the behaviour of the original board.
Step 1 — Configuring the DIP switches (SB Opt / S3)
The options of the integrated sound board are set via the DIP switches block SB Opt
⚠️ Important: these settings depend on the game. For the exact values, refer to the corresponding Gottlieb manual.

DIP correspondence (general rule)
- MA55 and MA490 sound boards: DIP 1 and 2 of the SB Opt block correspond to DIP 1 and 2 of the original sound board
- MA216 and MA309 sound boards: DIP 1 to 4 of the SB Opt block correspond to DIP 3 to 6 of the original sound board
Integrated audio test ("Test" button)

By pressing the "Test" button on the board:
- with a sound board with voice (speech), the Mini Player plays the sound: "Tilt tilt tilt"
- with the other sound boards, the sound played is: "oohhhhh"
This test allows you to immediately check:
- the proper operation of the audio section
- the presence of the sound signal and of the voices

Audio settings & components of the sound section

Setting the volumes (sounds vs voices)
- 🟥 Potentiometer — Voice volume: adjust the level of the voices (speech) if they are too low.
- 🟩 Potentiometer — Sound volume: adjust the level of the non-vocal sounds (noises, music).
⚠️ Note: the main volume is mostly controlled by the potentiometer located in the door of the pinball machine. Only adjust on the board to balance the level between sounds and voices.
🟨 Audio amplifier (TDA7267)
If you have no more sound while the fuse of the sound section is working, the amplifier may be faulty.
It can be replaced with a TDA7267 (equivalent model), easily available for a few euros.
⬜ Mini Player (voice)
The Mini Player contains the voice files. It lights up blue when a voice is played, which allows you to quickly check its operation during tests.
Connecting the sound extension (A1J6)
To connect the sound extension to your pinball machine, you need:
- the extension cable
- the connector for A1J6
Everything connects exactly as on the original to A1J6.

⚠️ Important:
- check that the cable colour is identical at both ends (main board side and extension side)
- make sure that the connector arrow (circled in red) points to the cable of the same colour on both sides
FAQ — Integrated sound board GottFA80_Plus V2 Full
Does this board keep the original sounds and voices?
Yes. The GottFA80_Plus V2 Full respects the original ROMs and reproduces the audio modes (sounds and speech) of the game, with behaviour identical to the MA55, MA216, MA309 and MA490 boards.
Where do I set the audio DIP switches?
The settings are made via the SB Opt block (also marked S3 depending on the versions). The exact values depend on the game: refer to the corresponding Gottlieb manual.
What should I do if I have no more sound?
First check the fuse of the sound section. If it is OK, the amplifier (TDA7267) may be the cause. It can be replaced with an equivalent model.
