Gottfa80_PLus V2 Full: Integrated sound board
Integrated Sound Board of the GottFA80_Plus V2 Full: Compatibility, Settings, and Audio Tests (Gottlieb System 80 / 80A / 80B)
The Gottlieb System 80, System 80A, and System 80B pinball machines are well known for their gameplay, but also for their Gottlieb sound boards which often become unreliable after more than 40 years (random failures, missing speech, unbalanced volume, etc.). The GottFA80_Plus V2 Full integrates a modern sound board directly onto a single all-in-one board, while fully preserving the authentic original sounds.

A complete plug-and-play board (CPU + Driver + Power Supply + Sound)
With the GottFA80_Plus V2 Full, you replace a large part of the original electronics with a reliable, modern, and 100% plug-and-play solution, without modifying your pinball machine.
- Integrated CPU: original system compatibility preserved
- Integrated sound board: original sounds and speech preserved
- Integrated driver board: original behavior maintained
- Integrated power supply: clean and stable solution
Authenticity preserved: ROMs, audio modes, and DIP switch settings
The board replaces both the original CPU and sound board while strictly respecting:
- the game’s original ROMs
- the original sound and speech modes
- the DIP switch settings specific to each machine
Whether your pinball machine uses a MA55, MA216 (speech), MA309, or MA490 sound board, the audio behavior is preserved exactly.
Sound Test: settings and audio verification procedure
Before testing, make sure the audio options are correctly configured in order to faithfully reproduce the behavior of the original sound board.
Step 1 — DIP switch configuration (SB Opt / S3)
The integrated sound board options are configured using the SB Opt DIP switch block.
⚠️ Important: these settings depend on the game. For exact values, always refer to the corresponding Gottlieb service manual.

DIP switch mapping (general rule)
- MA55 and MA490 sound boards: DIP 1 and 2 on the SB Opt block correspond to DIP 1 and 2 on the original sound board
- MA216 and MA309 sound boards: DIP 1 to 4 on the SB Opt block correspond to DIP 3 to 6 on the original sound board
Integrated audio test (“Test” button)

When pressing the “Test” button on the board:
- with a speech sound board, the Mini Player plays the sound: “Tilt tilt tilt”
- with other sound boards, the sound played is: “oohhhhh”
This test allows you to immediately verify:
- the proper operation of the audio section
- the presence of sound output and speech

Audio settings & sound section components

Volume adjustment (sounds vs speech)
- 🟥 Potentiometer — Speech volume: adjust the level of speech if voices are too quiet
- 🟩 Potentiometer — Sound volume: adjust the level of non-speech sounds (effects, music)
⚠️ Note: the main volume is primarily controlled by the potentiometer located inside the coin door of the pinball machine. Use the board potentiometers only to balance sounds and speech.
🟨 Audio amplifier (TDA7267)
If you have no sound while the sound fuse is still good, the audio amplifier may be defective.
It can be replaced with a TDA7267 (equivalent model), easily available for a few euros.
⬜ Mini Player (speech)
The Mini Player stores all speech files. It lights up blue when a voice is played, making it easy to visually confirm proper operation during tests.
Sound extension connection (A1J6)
To connect the sound extension to your pinball machine, you need:
- the extension cable
- the A1J6 connector
Everything connects exactly like the original on A1J6.

⚠️ Important:
- make sure the wire color is identical on both ends (main board and extension board)
- ensure the connector arrow (circled in red) points to the same wire color on both sides
